Film Industry

Russian film industry is very much on the drive now picking up the slack of the great traditions of the soviet filmmaking. Today around 120 local films are released every year with twice as much being in production. Films from Russia draw more and more attention at the global scale, too, being present at the main market events and sold to more than 70 countries.

The past five years have been a huge step forward for the industry with several domestic films shot in 3D, prepared for IMAX and mixed in Dolby Atmos. Local film crews have gained experience in many aspects of filmmaking being able to compete with any European country in terms of quality.

Due to the current economic situation for the past 3 years Russia has become extremely beneficial place  to stay. Food, hotels and services are really cheap in Russia now. That includes the filming services, too. Even without incentives that were introduced in several regions in 2017 the rates for the film professional services very often are 3 times lower than in Europe.

The first rebate is paid in Russia

The first subsidy for reimbursement of cinematography organizations - Rebate - in the history of Russia was paid in the Primorsky Region to the Mars Media film company, which shot a feature film "On the District" in Vladivostok in the fall of 2016.

The Russian Office of Film Commissions was established in 2017 with the support of The Federal Agency for Tourism (Russiatourism) and The Federal State Unitary Enterprise «National marketing center for tourism Visit Russia».

The organization actively cooperates with the regional governments of Moscow region, Saint-Petersburg, Leningrad oblast, Kaliningrad oblast, Tatarstan, Kaluga oblast and Primorsky krai film commission.
