Description

Kaliningrad Oblast is the farther eastern part of Russia and of the most unique and picturesque regions in the country. It is separated from the mainland Russia and surrounded by Poland, Lithuania and Baltic Sea.

Historically, this land was a part of East Prussia for centuries, which reflected in the local architecture monuments and towns. Its capital Königsberg (later renamed to Kaliningrad) was a cultural and administrative center of the land Back in the beginning of the 20th century the resorts located here were a popular vacation destination for the European aristocracy. Right after the WWII the region became a part of the Soviet Union and later, Russia and received a new name of Kaliningrad Oblast. Years after, cultural, health resort and ecological types of tourism remain strong here.

The biggest touristic centers of the region are the city of Kaliningrad and the famous Curonian Spit with its unusual sand dunes and twisted forests. The region is rich with splendid landscapes and unique remedial resources. The main resorts of Svetlogorsk and Zelenogradsk attract attention of tourists for more than two centuries.

The second name of the region is Amber land thanks to the natural riches of Kaliningrad oblast.
