Primorsky krai is uniquely located in the Far East of Russia. The eastern coast of the region is washed by the Sea of Japan, while on the western edge it borders with the People's Republic of China, and on the southern with the DPRK.
More than 40 small islands and 6 larger ones near the coast of Primorsky krai comprise the water area of the largest bay of the Sea of Japan - the Gulf of Peter the Great..
Primorsky krai is the land of sea, wind and lakes. The impossible 3 thousand lakes cover the territory of the region. The largest of them is Lake Khanka, part of which is located in the territory of China.
The regional capital Vladivostok with its population of around 600 000 people is the region’s financial, political, cultural and economic center. Being a port city it is well connected with the last of Russia and bordering countries via ferry, airplanes and railroad. Vladivostok is also a heavily motorized city. With around 422 000 officially registered vehicles it has fifth largest car fleet in the Russia, only behind Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg.
